In the first ever Welsh Canoe Polo League, Amman Valley Paddlers, entered their senior polo team in division 2. The first competition was played at Newport swimming pool in March. The team played five games with five wins. The second competition was in April, same venue with the team winning two but then losing to Aberfan 7-1.
The final tournament was outdoors over the weekend of 28-29th April at Pembroke next to Pembroke Castle. On the Saturday morning, going into the tournament in second place behind Aberfan they had a bad start drawing 2-2 with Bridgend A. The day did get better with four more wins beating Narbeth 4-1, Croesyceiliog 6-2, Cardiff University B 3-1 and finally Cardiff University Girls team 7-1.
Sunday morning saw them playing three games and needing to win them all to take the tournament. The first game against Rhondda gave them a comfortable win 7-1. In the second game they beat Bridgend X 3-1. One game left and one win needed. Slight problem, it was Aberfan! The only team to have beaten them!
Congratulations to all the players and thanks to the support team for cheering them along and a special thanks to Nigel Midgley for all his hard work over the season. Hopefully his voice will return soon.

The Teifi Tour is an event run by Llandysul Canoe Club which attracts clubs and individuals from around the country. The 'Tour' is fast becoming legendary. This years Teifi Tour is going to be held on the 28th and 29th October. This year's Teifi Tour is also the River Legacy’s mega bash, with entertainment and music being laid on by local bands and D.J’s. The format for the weekend is that car parking is limited to the site opposite the centre and in the fields. The bar is open until 11.45pm Friday and Saturday nights as is the kitchen in the marquees The Teifi Tour ticket price is £10 this does not include the Mega bash - only the riverside of things. Anyhow the club is gauging interest from adult members who want to attend the event (remember its an October camp!!), the event isn't really that suitable for children to camp overnight. I plan to camp overnight on the Saturday. At the moment the nothing is finalised but if you are interested drop me a bell, email or comment this article. Craig All the tour details are available from Llandysul Paddlers.

AMMAN Valley Paddlers canoe club sailed to victory in a canoe polo tournament as part of the Cardiff Bay Canoeing Festival recently. They won their first three matches and lost one before getting to the Final against Aberfan Canoe Club. At the close of the first half of the final, AVP were 5-3 down but after a tactical team talk with their coach Nigel Midgely, they made a comeback and dominated the second half and won the final 7-5. For a small local club to beat a team like Aberfan is a huge achievement and all the players rose to the occasion. Pics taken by Craig. Full Gallery
