Upper Towy PDF E-mail

Another successful trip to the Upper Towy - only two swims - myself and Jeremy! River levels were quite low really, but it was a good trip none the less.

See the pics in the gallery. Anyhow, here's the video you were all waiting for:

Christmas Paddle of Legend PDF E-mail

A Christmas Paddle of Legend!

Fisrt up it was MONSTER river levels, so much so that the 'junior' members took to a raft. Everyone enjoyed the trip and playing in the river waves. The trip went from Llanfihangel-ar-arth to Llandysul, and took about 2 hours, the river was moving really quickly which was exciting.

We had a great michelin star level meal, courtesy of Catrin and Katrina. Then a few drinks and some serious Wii sessions on the projector in the canoe centre.

On the Sunday,

A little rough, some ventured out of the centre and went on a paddle, same route as the day before. Then it happened!

Mark took a SWIM!!! Rarity only matched by the likes of a solar eclipse. On a flat section just below Llanfihangel Bridge....

Oher than Mark being slightly shook up, the trip was fine until the group got to Llandysul. At this point James decided to join Mark in his exclusive swim club.Mark, Jeremy and Nigel (M) fought to rescue but the boat was lost and turned up in Henllan.

What a weekend! Check out the pics here.

AVP Beginners River Trip on the Teifi PDF E-mail

Last weekend we had one of the largest and most successful river trips the club has ever seen. We had about 16 first timers on a river trip from Llanfihangel-ar-arth to Llandysul. The trip also signifies the largest intake of girls the club has ever had. Our group was so large, we split into 3 smaller groups and travelled down as such.

Thanks to Jeremy, Mark for the organisation and to Gareth Bryant for the MiniBus, Use of the Centre, Tea, Boats ( The list is endless - cheers). A HUGE thanks goes out to Nigel Midgley who is the 'Worlds Greatest Coach'™( voted for by us...).

The trip started off by the bridge by Llanfihangel-ar-arth and concluded on the slalom run by the Canoe Centre. Some of the 'brave' participants experienced their first 'white water', running past the Canoe Centre. The trip was enjoyed by all and was a great deal of fun, we had a few swims which is to be expected including some 'classic ones'. Funnily, none of the swims were on swift water....

 Anyhow, great day...

Welsh do well in Irish Open PDF E-mail

The Irish Open Canoe Polo tournament washeld on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd of September at Kilcock near Dublin. Amman Valley Paddlers, a local canoe club from Ammanford entered their first European Tournament. This tournament is very popular with teams entering from as far as the USA and Iran. The Team, Ryan Williams, Ben Davies, James Marshall, Tom Bartlett, Shaun Sutton and Nathan Burton battled their way through to the division three play offs, finishing a very credible third. Congratulations to them all.

Congratulations must also go to six other AVP members, three girls, Carys Thomas, Briony Turtle and Katie Davies who played for the Welsh Ladies U21 team in the ladies division and came second. Also three boys, Adam Davies, Steffan Davies and Rob Jon Sheen, who played for the Welsh U21 team winning the division three trophy.

Amman Valley Paddlers are a small canoe club who run pool sessions from Ammanford Pool on Monday nights from 9-10 pm. We also do white water river running, slalom, surf and flat water paddling. The Welsh were also represented with teams from Aberfan and Cardiff who also had good results in the tournament making it avery good weekend for the Welsh in Ireland.

A big thank you to all who made this possible for AVP to go to Ireland. Jeremy Williams
