Towy Valley Fishing Syndicate PDF E-mail
Due to the Week in Week out program on Land Reform, we have not been invited back to the Welsh Game Fair.
Over the past few years we have been doing a lot of positive work, promoting canoeing and canoeists -
Amman Valley Paddlers.

We were told that we were not welcome at the event this year, the Towy Valley Fishing Syndicate(?) stated that if the (!) canoeists go to the game fair, they would pull the fishing displays ( not much of a game fair without fishing).
Of course we are disapointed, especially when you consider how shrewd a move that is. I feel sorry for the hundreds of people that will miss out on canoeing at this years event. Last year we had over 200 people canoeing over the course of the weekend, of all ages from 3 - to a lady of 92.
My sentiments go to the organisers, who were obviously bullied into submission by the Towy Valley Fishing Syndicate(?)

A shameful display of pettiness from the Towy Valley Fishing Syndicate(?). :-(

Teifi Tour PDF E-mail

The Teifi Tour is an event run by Llandysul Canoe Club which attracts clubs and individuals from around the country. The 'Tour' is fast becoming legendary.

This years Teifi Tour is going to be held on the 28th and 29th October. This year's Teifi Tour is also the River Legacy’s mega bash, with entertainment and music being laid on by local bands and D.J’s.

The format for the weekend is that car parking is limited to the site opposite the centre and in the fields. The bar is open until 11.45pm Friday and Saturday nights as is the kitchen in the marquees The Teifi Tour ticket price is £10 this does not include the Mega bash - only the riverside of things.

Anyhow the club is gauging interest from adult members who want to attend the event (remember its an October camp!!), the event isn't really that suitable for children to camp overnight.

I plan to camp overnight on the Saturday.

At the moment the nothing is finalised but if you are interested drop me a bell, email or comment this article.

All the tour details are available from Llandysul Paddlers.

Welsh do well in Irish Open PDF E-mail

The Irish Open Canoe Polo tournament washeld on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd of September at Kilcock near Dublin. Amman Valley Paddlers, a local canoe club from Ammanford entered their first European Tournament. This tournament is very popular with teams entering from as far as the USA and Iran. The Team, Ryan Williams, Ben Davies, James Marshall, Tom Bartlett, Shaun Sutton and Nathan Burton battled their way through to the division three play offs, finishing a very credible third. Congratulations to them all.

Congratulations must also go to six other AVP members, three girls, Carys Thomas, Briony Turtle and Katie Davies who played for the Welsh Ladies U21 team in the ladies division and came second. Also three boys, Adam Davies, Steffan Davies and Rob Jon Sheen, who played for the Welsh U21 team winning the division three trophy.

Amman Valley Paddlers are a small canoe club who run pool sessions from Ammanford Pool on Monday nights from 9-10 pm. We also do white water river running, slalom, surf and flat water paddling. The Welsh were also represented with teams from Aberfan and Cardiff who also had good results in the tournament making it avery good weekend for the Welsh in Ireland.

Check out the pics in the Gallery

A big thank you to all who made this possible for AVP to go to Ireland. Jeremy Williams

Access Protest PDF E-mail

Well the protest was phenomenally successful! We had TV crews, newspapers and radio. We had 50 canoeists of all ages turn up.
5 ***** stars to the guy who turned up with the wilderness systems sit-on top and fishing rods, that made my day!! All goes to prove a very good point.
We walked along the road for 1.5 miles down to the Game Fair ( with the boats), handing out leaflets. People on the whole were very open to our cause with 100s of leaflets taken and thumbs up given! We had one idiot with rods in his car who shouted "trespassers" at us and revved aggressively. But we just didn't respond.
We got to the bridge above the Game Fair and displayed our banners, took pics and did TV interviews.
Some of the Police support.
Police were really good to us, close support and good advice. Good bunch of guys - cheers!

The banners were bilingual and double sided, we then lowered the open-boats and banners over the side of the bridge. They sat a couple of feet above the water, we had a whole heap of cameras pointing at us then!!

Also a big thanks to JustPrint in Carmarthen for the signs ( they looked awesome) and leaflets, White Water Consultancy for supplying openboats and boat trolleys..
Well done to everyone who took part ( walking with a boat for 3 miles isn't fun) it was an effort of biblical proportions - and we pulled it off.

On another note -
We got the fisherman's statement just before the protest, the point that really cracked us all up was "they have been encouraged and exploited by the Welsh Canoe Association" we instigated the whole shebang!! Although we had permission and support from the WCA.
